Grades 1-7 don’t need AI, Calculator use, Internet use, iPads, or laptops. I actually think it’s a good thing. We don’t have longitudinal studies on the impact of AI use at such a young age, but we do have studies on screen time and internet use. Ask any wealthy person if they let their kids have screen time at such a young age. The tech CEOs themselves don’t allow their kids to have access to the internet like that.

Everything is moving too fast and I think this is the right approach until governments can understand impact better and find a better way to incorporate AI into learning.

It's true. Especially for the really young. But bans are not enough, given we expect kids to work around them. It's an admission that we can't adapt pedagogy or a delay tactic. Which may be fine for a short while.

I agree. We talk about this even more in the podcast to air. We did the podcast before we did the article and I definitely share my unadulterated thinking thats aligns with what you have here. One of my clients is in EdTech and we've watched a lot of legislation being presented about eliminating digital/screens from K-5. So AI for these districts is truly a no-no.

Even UChicago's law school is eliminating AI use in class ( and as a result digital devices - to enforce it) for their first year students.
